Hanshi Brian Mackie

Brian is privileged to have been instructed by World renowned Japanese masters and be one of the few Western Karate-ka to have been personally graded to Hanshi ranking in the International Karate-Do Goju-Kai Association.AKF founding member Brian was a founder member and inaugural President of the Australian Karate Federation WA for 16 years, State Coach, National Coach, Australian Team Captain and Gold medal competitor. He was responsible for writing the original Level 1 and 2 N.C.A.S. training manuals and was appointed permanent Technical Advisor for the A.K.F.

Undiminished dedication in Instructing 15 classes a week Brian’s passion for karate is matched only by his love of teaching. Brian is priviliged to have been instructed by World renowned Japanese masters and be one of the few Western Karate-ka to have been personally graded to 8th Dan Hanshi ranking.

In bringing the best to Perth Brian has hosted both the Asian Pacific and World IKGA Championships in Perth. He continues to invite the world’s leading karate exponents such as 9 times World Champion Wayne Otto to instruct members of his Academy.

Had a call from my seven year old boys principle today to tell me there had been an incident at school involving him and his mates in year two and a group of year four boys. The younger boys were rough housing when the year four boys muscled in on the action. One bigger boy took exception to my boy and shoved him in the back forcing him to the ground face first.
My son then got up and was immediately taunted by the older boys to strike this kid. "Punch him in the face" to which my son replied that it wasn't the right thing to do and walked away.So the principle had called to congratulate my boy on his coolheaded approach. Thank you Sensei basil for not only teaching my son how to defend himself but also how to handle himself under pressure. So proud.

If a karate club was rated just on its national and international success, then this club would be one of the best, but Basil Shihan’s club has far more to offer than just success in competition. It is a welcoming community where kids and adults learn life skills, respect and discipline at the same time as learning the graceful art of Goju Kai.
